Store History

In 1969, Don & Betty Hardesty saw the need for natural product options and healthy supplements in Western PA. They opened the first Health Hut Store in New Castle and the second Health Hut Store in Chippewa (Beaver Falls) in 1979.

In 1994, the Hardesty's son-in-law and daughter, Kevin and Kelly Miller continued in the family business as they purchased the Chippewa store. Kelly's passion for healthy living was such a part of her life that she wanted to continue serving others with natural products and exceptional service.

Throughout the years, it has been vitally important to the Health Hut staff to help people change the way they feel through what they take into their bodies via food, supplements and drink. Health Hut continues the tradition for natural products that Don and Betty started 30 years ago by being committed to:

Meet the Staff

Kevin Miller:

As the co-owner of the Health Hut, Kevin has over 15 years experience meeting the customer's needs by providing one on one help. He is committed to helping Health Hut's employees develop their knowledge of health food products and serve each client. For the past 7 years, you can find him picking up the bagels every Wednesday morning. As often as possible, Kevin will spend his free time playing golf and traveling with his wife Kelly, and daughters Bailee and Lauren.

Kelly Miller:

Kelly's parent's started the Health Hut in 1969; and ever since Kelly has been passionate about healthy living products. She graduated from Robert Morris University and has continued her training with various specialists in homeopathy, herbs, neutraceuticals. Her favorite job at the Health Hut is spending time with customers to help them understand which products are best for them. Certified as a tennis instructor, Kelly teaches and plays tennis as often as possible. She has been married to Kevin for 23 years and is the Mother to their two daughters.

Staff Favorites

Kelly:

• Nordic Ultimate Omega - with its high amounts of EPA and DHA, it has helped to keep my eyes healthy, keep me in focus for everything I need to accomplish every day and balances my fats for a healthy heart and cholesterol levels.

• HerbaSway products - Peach green tea and BlueBerry Concentrate - Both are potent antioxidants that are so easy to use every day because they taste awesome when added to water. They are both sweetened with Stevia which is the only proven safe calorie free sweetener available. I drink twice as much water as I normally would when I add either one of these to my water bottle.

• Jay Robb protein shakes (especially Pina Colada) - they are so easy to mix up after a workout at the gym, all of the flavors taste great with 0 grams of sugar and no artificial anything. They even give great recipes on their bottles for quick energy, fat burning, or power shakes before a workout.

• Digest Gold from Enzymedica - I can't say enough about how much better I have felt since I've started taking these with my meals - no more bloating, gas or heartburn.

   

Kevin:

• Healthy Origin Coq10 - For the past 10 years it has kept my blood pressure and cholesterol at healthy levels. Best choice available for a healthy heart.

• Hylaronic Acid (HA) - At 55 years of age, hylaronic has kept my joints healthy enough to continue playing softball and almost keep up with Kelly on the tennis court. It took a few bottles to help with the pain I had in my knees from years of abuse from sports but the difference is worth the wait.

• Snap Peas - they are just great to snack on - and my wife is happy since I no longer ask for croutons on my salad - these are much better.

• Low Carb Onion bagels - they are filling and taste great even used with burgers or turkey sandwiches

Sue:

I've always been health conscious and am so happy to work for a store that encourages my healthy lifestyle by providing continuing education and support.

I love working with our customers, as I learn a lot from them too!

• Nordic Naturals - Some of my favorite products are the Nordic Naturals line of great tasting fish oils and supplements--love the orange flavor. Their quality and purity are unsurpassed.

• Fiber 35 - Trying to add extra fiber to my diet is so easy with the Fiber 35 products. I put the Sprinkle Fiber in my morning coffee and add 10-15 grams of fiber easily. Great way to start the day.

• I'm always snacking on something and the lightly salted edemame and the greek yogurt with honey are my current favorites.

Kym:

Here are 4 of my favorite things. it was hard to limit it to 4!!

• Flax oil and Evening primrose oil - together twice a day for hot flash control. I know that's two products, but imperative that they are taken together unless you enjoy sweating. Add the AWESOME flax crackers for even better results. OK now that's three

• Enzamatic Therapy Estrobalance - to control  estrogen dominance. It so beneficial for peri-menopausal symptoms as well as pms for younger women. I take it and my 24 year old daughter won't live without it. It helps so much with cramps and breast tenderness.

• Enzymedica Digest Gold!!!! - Incredible relief from acid reflux, upset stomach, indigestion, constipation and so much more. LOVE LOVE LOVE Digest Gold!

• Vitalzyme - I don't take it because I don't need it, but have witnessed amazing results for type 1 and type 2 diabetics for regulating blood sugar. Not sure? Go to the website and read the testimonials. Health Hut sells it for less than you can buy it online!!!! If you are a diabetic I hope you try this.

Chuck:

I've been privileged to be a part of the Health Hut team for the past nine years. During that time I have had the opportunity to assist our customers in their quest for better health by answering questions or directing them to nutritional supplements, foods, or other appropriate items. For me, the greatest satisfaction always occurs when a customer returns to tell me that something I suggested has made a positive difference in their life.

Some of my favorite products include:

• Dynamic Health Healthy Blend - this is my favorite superfood blend. The six fruits included are provided in generous amounts, It has been exciting to watch this product become a best seller in the store as well as customers have had positive results.

• Dynamic Health Mangosteen Blend - when combined with Healthy Blend, I have seen considerable changes in my energy and adapting to physical stress.

• Miximum Living Opti-Max - The cornerstone of my eye supplement program, and the best blend of nutrients available for eye health I have yet seen.

• Alvita peppermint tea - My favorite drink for relaxation and winding down at the end of a hectic day.

Beverly:

Hello, I'm Beverly, the newest of the Health Hut team. I recently came on board in March of 2009. I love the great outdoors and enjoy seeing it on horseback, on foot, or with my husband, on his Harley. Local history is another of my interests; It's a great way to meet people and share ideas. I have four beautiful and very active grandchildren to keep up with - it's been a joy watching them grow; which keeps me focused on living a healthy lifestyle to be active with them for many years to come.

Some of my favorite products are:

• Nordic Berries, Nordic omega-3 Gummies, Children's DHA - My daughter-in-law has found a vitamin that he boys, believe it or not, enjoy taking. It is the Nordic Berries multivitamin along with the Nordic omega-3 Gummies and Children's DHA. Even my youngest grandson, who is 5, has no trouble taking his cod liver oil. I recall all too well the smell and taste of cod liver oil as I was growing up and my grandmother telling me it was good for me. They certainly have come a long way in improving on the taste and smell, not to mention such flavors as tangerine and strawberry. I find myself enjoying a berry or gummy with the grandkids. Hey why not? We grandmothers need as much brain and visual help as we can get.

• Vitamin O - It seemed that day after day I was not getting as much accomplished and my energy just was not there for me to keep going. After some research work, I decided to drink my 8-10 glasses of water a day to flush out toxins and try to exercise more. That isn't easy if you don't have the energy to begin with. Vitamin O has become my friend and I can honestly say that my energy has improved and I find myself scooting through the everyday routine with energy to spare.

• Acidophilus Pearls - Like many other grandmother's out there, I have suffered from the dreaded gas, bloating, and the big "C"...constipation.  For me the answer was Enzymatic Therapy's Acidophilus Pearls.  It is easy and convenient to take and it is dairy free.  I apparently needed to increase my healthy flora in the intestines.  No slowing this granny down now.

Jill:

I've been with the Health Hut since February of 2001. I knew when I stepped in to the Beaver store for the first time as a customer that it was "someplace special." I was a stay at home single mom that hadn't worked for a long while. Kevin gave me a chance, trained & educated me. I have learned so much about "health care" from the owners , the staff, our educational trainings, & definitely our patrons. I am always learning. I thank God for the health hut. Being a part of this family has enriched my life and the lives of my personal family as well. My goal in life has always been to help people; it has truly been an honor to serve here.

I find it so difficult to pick just 4 favorite products, but...here goes:

• Vitalzym - As a systemic enzyme, I have used this product to remove scar tissue, fibro cystic breasts, and to aid in fibromyalgia pain.  Heart disease runs in my family ~ but not in my body.  I thank God for Vitalzym.

• Estrobalance - My husband says when I'm not taking my estrobalance, I'm a cross between Cybil & Linda Blair!  When my night sweats, hot flashes, & crankiness flair up...I've forgotten to take my estrobalance.  I need it bad!

• Alive - I believe you cannot build anything without a firm foundation. That is the same with your health.  Alive is that firm foundation we all need.  Not only a great vitamin & mineral supplement, it is full of a wonderful amount of whole food nutrients.  It is a must have!!

• FIBER, FIBER, FIBER!! Fiber 35's Sprinkle Fiber is a must have for anyone who wants to be healthy and lose weight.  Made from Acacia fiber - the easiest fiber to digest, it has no taste & it doesn't thicken.  And, I cannot live without Sami's Lo-carb millet & flax cinnamon raisin bread and chips.  It doesn't get any better than this!!!
